Countable and uncountable nouns with containers
In this lesson, we learn the names of common vegetables in English. All of these are called vegetables.

Salad = a mixed dish of vegetables (or fruits). We don't cook salad.
Note: Vietnamese "xà lách" = lettuce in English (the vegetable), not "salad" (the dish).

Can count with numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
Has singular and plural forms.
Examples:
Cannot count directly. No plural form.
Cannot say "one milk" or "two breads" - WRONG!

With uncountable nouns, use some or a little:

To count uncountable nouns, we use containers. The container is countable, so we can use numbers.

A dozen (một tá) = 12. We often use this for eggs.
A dozen eggs = 12 eggs (một tá trứng = 12 quả trứng)

Use Have you got any...? or Do you have any...?
Use Could I have...? or I would like...
Example: "These melons don't look ripe." - "No, they need two or three more days."
Customer: Have you got any apples?
Shop assistant: Yes. How many would you like?
Customer: I'd like six, please.
Shop assistant: Anything else?
Customer: I would like some ham, please.
Shop assistant: How much would you like?
Customer: About 200 grams.
Shop assistant: Of course. Anything else?
Customer: No, that's all, thanks.
